Ford Mustang

Form. Finish. Presence.
This project was a client commission to create a detailed 3D model and studio renders of the 2022 Ford Mustang NASCAR Next Gen race car. My main focus was capturing the aggressive stance and track-ready details of the car, taking it from initial modeling all the way to final studio presentation.
Clean topology and race-spec details
I modeled the entire car in Autodesk Maya, paying close attention to the body proportions and clean topology so the surface reflections would flow smoothly. Beyond the main aerodynamic bodywork, I really enjoyed building the specific racing elements—like the hood louvers, front splitter, side exhausts, window safety netting, and the center-lock racing wheels.
Surfaces, studio lighting, and rendering
The texturing was completed in Adobe Substance 3D Painter, where I worked on the dark racing livery, the worn #22 decals, and the classic yellow Goodyear Eagle tire markings. For the final stage, I brought the model into Blender to build the studio environment, set up the overhead lighting grid, and handle the final renders. Using a wide soft-box ceiling setup helped highlight the body lines and gave the paint and tires a realistic, grounded look.
The process behind the project
What I enjoyed most about this commission was trying to nail the exact proportions and realistic feel of the car. Watching the model transition from a clean clay mesh and wireframe in Maya to a fully textured car sitting under studio lights in Blender was a really satisfying process from start to finish.
